Lileks

Anyone know why I can never access James Lileks' site? For the past month or so, every time I try to visit his site, I get this message:
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
But I can access his site from a family member's computer. The mystery is why his site alone suddenly stopped working for me at home. Any ideas?

Can you give us more information? On Windows, open a command prompt and type "ping lileks.com" and/or "tracert lileks.com" to see if you can resolve the server. The tracert command should end up at zaphod.catalystx.com (IP address 64.246.60.49). If it doesn't, you have a DNS problem - talk to your ISP.

Thanks. I did the "ping," but it just said, "Request timed out." Then I did tracert, and it got through step 11 (ivhou-207-218-245-113.ev1.net), but everything after that said "timed out." I have no idea what any of that means.

It appears that Lileks's ISP is blocking traffic from your ISP. Maybe they were subject to a denial of service attack or spammers and blocked traffic from similar IP addresses. When I do a tracert, the last step you got to is the very last one before catalystx.com, Lileks's hosting firm.

If it really bothers you, you could try sending an email with the tracert information to catalystx.com.
